Contracenar*   |   PT  /  ES

It is the wanting-because-one-wants of life, the unbridled force, what cannot be held back — it is the first movement of every instinct: to stand before another existence or before our own, open to mystery and paradox, to the contrary and the contraction, to encounter and emotion. It is the collision and the fearlessness. It is the throw of the dice, the play of difference, the risk and the leap into the abyss. The act of playing opposite another, contracenar, an infinite verb.

* There is no single word in English with the same meaning as contracenar in the Portuguese language. In English, the term may be rendered by counterstaging — a neologism that combines counter and staging, the latter being a canonical term in the anglophone theatrical lexicon — or by the expression playing opposite, widely used in theatrical practice.
